About

A clinician's answer to a measurement problem

APIScog began with a question from neurodevelopmental practice: if cognition is used in the middle of ordinary, cluttered, demanding situations, why is it so often assessed with tasks that look nothing like them?

The premise

Measure it where it is used

Conventional cognitive tasks are abstract by design. That makes them easy to standardise, and it is why they have lasted — but it also means a person can perform well on a grid of shapes and still struggle in a supermarket, an office or an airport.

APIScog takes the opposite starting point. Build the situation first, put the cognitive demands inside it, and record not only whether someone succeeded but how they went about it. The airport scenario is the first of those situations.

The name

Apis

Apis is Latin for honeybee — chosen for what the bee represents: intelligence and functional efficiency, a small system doing complex work reliably. “cog” is for cognition, and for the mechanism it sits in.

APIS Clinic

Related, and deliberately separate

APIScog shares its founder and its name with APIS Clinic, a neurodevelopmental practice on Harley Street, London. The two are separate things and should be understood separately: the clinic provides regulated clinical services, while APIScog is a pre-validation research and training platform that provides none. Nothing on this site is a clinical service, and nothing APIScog records forms part of a clinical assessment.

How we work

Three commitments

  • Wellbeing first, not a medical claim

APIScog is positioned as a cognitive wellbeing and training platform, not a condition-specific medical product. That is a decision about what it is, not a disclaimer bolted on afterwards.

  • Evidence before expansion

Feasibility testing, then pilot collaboration, then validation studies. Each stage has to earn the next, and the diagnostic pathway stays investigational until evidence says otherwise.

  • Say what stage we are at

APIScog is at MVP stage and the site says so on every page. A pre-validation product that is candid about its limits is worth more than one that is not.

The thinking behind it

Work with us on what comes next

APIScog is at the stage where pilot partners, researchers and investors shape the direction. If that is you, get in touch.

APIScog is currently at MVP stage. It is not yet clinically validated and is not intended to diagnose or treat any condition. Future diagnostic or clinical applications would require appropriate validation and regulatory review.
